It’s Complicated

Monday, April 26th, 2010

Never fear, folks.  I’m still around, and still ready to get started on this month’s IR winner!  It looks like Liar’s Dice managed to break a three-way tie at the eleventh hour, probably thanks to my complaining suggesting via Facebook that someone should do that for me so I don’t have to resort to a die roll.  Did it win because it was the person’s favorite story?  Did it win because it was at the top of the poll list?  The world may never know.  Still, it’ll be fun to get back to LD and see where our hapless heroes tread next.  It sure can’t get much worse…  Or CAN IT?!?

Still pondering how to get the word out.  I know most people do this kind of thing by being active in the writing community and various forums and websites online, but as I have been focusing on completing projects and actually WRITING rather than spending a lot of time browsing the digital distraction field (hereafter referred to as the DDF, or just plain Internet) I have limited resources in this regard.  Plus, I’d feel silly joining up just to pimp my own ride.  I may be a good writer, but I prefer the kind of attention that comes from readers stumbling across my site and finding a good place to hang their hats, not the kind I have to strong-arm my way into.  There’s a lot of detritus in the DDF – surely there must be some way to get mine more noticeable without handing out resumes links to websites I don’t even frequent.

Also, as an aside – I hate spam.  Most of it is quite obvious and I don’t waste time on such things.  However, there are often messages that are so close to believable that I run the risk of losing potential readers/comments to my spam filter.  If you have ever tried to comment and it hasn’t shown up, please do send me an email at brasspetals@gmail.com (don’t use the comments, obviously!) and tell me.  I want to be sure that I’m weeding out the bad but keeping the good!  If I bite anything or anyone, it’ll be my spam filters, not you.

See you on the 1st, ladies and gentlemen, with Liar’s Dice in tow!

No Fooling

I hope everyone had a great April First.  Without further interruption, I have not one, but TWO chapters of WotD for you!  It was fun to try to get back into the story after so many years, and I hope that these continuations do the story justice.  We’ll see where it goes from here!  Also, this marks the first update in a few months where I have not been injured in some fashion.  Let us hope the windstorm outside allows me to keep this statement true for the rest of the day.
See you in three weeks, everyone!

Fluffy Bunnies

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

Greetings, citizens!  On this day I felt it was pivotal to bring to you the story of Miss Candy Heart.  She has captivated my mind as a writer, and I want nothing more than to share her tale with the world.  In light of this, you will have to wait to read Way of the Dragon indefinitely*.  I’m sure that you won’t mind.  After all, Miss Heart’s tale is simply enchanting and should more than occupy your attention for the remainder of your lives.  After all, it is a story of happiness, with excellent morals and suitable for children of all ages.  Please enjoy!  (Oh who am I kidding.  I know you will!)

*I will post the promised updates tomorrow.  Don’t look at me like that.

No Dice

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

As in, no dice roll needed this month.  I guess I’m going to have to figure out where WotD is going for real now!  I hope I can do it justice after as many years as it has been percolating in the “unfinished” bin.  I’ll be very surprised if there’s not a slight change in tone or voice just due to my growth as a writer since I wrote that chapter, but I don’t want to turn it into something more complicated than it needs to be, either.

Thanks so much for your votes.  I see a few extra this month and I hope you’ll all stick around for the future!  I’m not in this for the publicity first and foremost (this is to keep me busy during months that are not November!) but the more readers I get, the better the system works, and the more I feel like it’s not just my husband and a very small contingent of personal friends telling me what I ought to do.  :)   I know these things take time, and that’s great, but every little bit counts as far as I’m concerned!

Let’s see what I can accomplish in getting WotD moving.  Meet me back here in a little more than a week!

Darkness and Light

Monday, March 1st, 2010

Not much to wax poetic about this month, folks.  I’ve got a new chapter of The End for you, as promised, and I am going to (in the next few minutes) post my NaNoWriMo PDF at long last.  So far only one person out of my original reader set has commented, but his consensus leads me to believe in some small way that perhaps, indeed, I have some hope of being a decent writer.  :)   Let’s hope you all agree!

I am thinking of ways to improve traffic here, in order to get this blog out to the masses.  If you can think of anything that isn’t too obtrusive or frustrating for readers, please do let me know and I’ll consider it.  I’m not ready to shell out a ton of funds trying to get attention, but small avenues have to be available that I haven’t thought of yet.

That’s all, folks!  I’ll see you on March 20th!
